Media Relations: Velez


Jessica Velez has a background in liberal arts via the University of Texas at Austin, and microbiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  Currently she is a graduate student at the University of Tennessee Knoxville studying plant-fungal interactions in regards to heavy metal contamination, and the possibility of increasing plant fitness in the presence of heavy metal contamination.  She is intrigued by the impact of science policy on society and the range of this impact, from agricultural practices to medical research, energy science and beyond.  She attended an open forum regarding the EPA’s Clean Power Plan in Atlanta, GA, and continues her involvement with policy review through several projects.
