Vice President Kirkegaard

Marie is a graduate student studying nuclear forensics. She works primarily at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, using computational methods to probe the chemistry of various uranium compounds. Marie has a B.S. in Chemical Physics from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA. It was there that Marie become interested in the connections between science, ethics, and policy, taking to heart the Harvey Mudd mission statement to educate scientists who understand the impact of their work on society. Related to her work in nuclear security, Marie is interested in nuclear weapons policy and counter-terrorism. On a more local scale, she is very passionate about the communication of science and finding ways to promote a greater appreciation of science. Eventually, she hopes to use her scientific background as a scientific advisor in D.C..
